I finally got so frustrated, I decided to make it myself! It took me two years-- and thousands of dollars-- so now you can...

Show YOUR students Georgia's amazing Native American civilizations that once existed in their own backyards!

Dear Educator,

After spending months searching  for a video about Georgia's Native American history I came to a realization: there wasn't one. So for two years I pulled out all the stops creating a groundbreaking video about the prehistoric Native American civilizations that once existed throughout the state of Georgia. Below you will find streaming video excerpts from the DVD and at the bottom of this page you will find ordering information. Click here to purchase this DVD now from my distributor, CreateSpace.com, or keep reading to learn more about the DVD.

SEVEN Separate Interviews with Archaeologists, Historians, and Scholars Allow You to Skip the Outdated Textbooks and Hear the Latest Discoveries Straight From the People Making Them

One of the biggest hurdles teaching students about prehistoric Native American archaeological sites is knowing that what you're telling your students is the most accurate, up-to-date information available...

It can be intimidating... particularly if this is not your specialty field of knowledge.

That's why I insisted that Lost Worlds: Georgia (Expanded Edition)v2.0 DVD include interviews with experts in the field. You'll hear from people such as:

  1. Dr. Joseph Kitchens, the Director of the Funk Heritage Center which was named by the Georgia Legislature as the official museum interpreting the Southeastern Indians in the state, gives an amazing discussion of the Mississippian time period and the various lifeways and cultural traditions of this complex civilization.
  2. Victor Thompson, the archaeologist who is conducting his research on the Sapelo Shell Ring Complex, the largest Archaic period archaeological site in Georgia. He reveals information so new that most of it has not even been published yet!
  3. Arch Smith, the director of the Rock Eagle 4-H Camp talks about the Rock Eagle and Rock Hawk effigy mounds, the only two bird effigies that can be found east of the Mississippi river. This video even includes never-before-seen footage of the Rock Hawk mound, not presently open to the public.
  4. Dr. Max E. White, the author and professor who literally wrote the book on Georgia's prehistoric Native American civilizations. His book The Archaeology and History of the Native Georgia Tribes is unique and his discussion of the stone walls and mounds atop Fort Mountain, Alec Mountain and Stone Mountain adds an element of mystery to the video.
  5. Eric Bentley, the manager of Kolomoki Mounds State Park takes us on an in-depth tour of both the mounds and the museum where he discusses the various artistic traditions and funeral rituals of these ancient people.
  6. Stephen Rudolph, the Public Education Officer at the Ocmulgee Mounds National Monument takes us back in time with his exceptional discussion of the cultural, political, and religious beliefs of the site's former inhabitants.
  7. Libby Bell, the manager of the Etowah Mounds State Park gives us a great introduction to this site which is one of the four most important Mississippian sites in the entire country.

Click each of the above links to see excerpts from the finished video featuring these experts. Remember, these are just excerpts-- the DVD includes MUCH MORE information. This video isn't just for students but also helps teachers update their own knowledge regarding Georgia's important Native American history. It's continuing education via DVD!

Additional 30 Minute Bonus Video

This special Expanded Edition includes a 30 minute bonus video featuring 10 separate demonstrations of Native American dancing, singing and drumming by Cherokee and Seminole Indians (both native Georgia tribes before their removal in the early 1800s).

Whereas the main 42 minute video is most appropriate for students in 8th grade and up, this bonus video is appropriate for students of all ages, from 6 to 60. Thus this DVD has something for everyone at any grade level! Click the video excerpts below to see for yourself:

"Every library should have a copy. Lost Worlds of Georgia is a must for courses on Georgia history."
-Loren L. Pinkerman, Director
LaGrange College Library

"I think you have a good product. This is an area in Georgia studies where there are not too many resources. The quality of the filming and sound was fantastic-- the editing was expertly done. I will recommend your DVD for purchase to anyone."
-Lynn Strickland
Georgia Library Media Association, Inc.

"I looked at your DVD and really enjoyed it. I think teachers would appreciate having this resource. Students often have a misconception of what Native Americans in early Georgia looked like and how they lived. This DVD gives students and teachers a better understanding of what life may have been like long before the Europeans stepped on the shore of Georgia."
-Dr. Eddie Bennett
Georgia Council  for the Social Studies

"This outstanding production...skillfully interweaves computer-generated dioramas and animation representing archaeologists' reconstructions of ancient ruins, contemporary film footage of the sites, presenters discussing sites with the visiting public, and interviews with experts....While intended for adults, this production is very accessible and could be easily integrated into school programs at the eighth grade level and higher."
-Eugenia Abbey
The Georgia Library Quarterly

Take Your Students Back in Time thousands of years to show them EXACTLY how these sites would have appeared back then.

Even if you were able to take your students to visit each of these archaeological sites they may still walk away never realizing the TRUE majesty of them. While visiting these sites I overheard many kids tell their parents, "What's the big deal? It's just a big pile of dirt."

You see, most of these sites are overgrown with trees and vegetation and look NOTHING like they did thousands of years ago. But by reconstructing these sites within the computer this DVD shows:

  • How the Sapelo Shell Rings were constructed from TONS of seashells and circular houses were located within the rings.
  • How the large mound at Kolomoki Mounds was once completely covered with white clay giving it a TRULY awe-inspiring appearance.
  • How the Ocmulgee Mounds once had magnificent temples on top where great tattooed leaders lived
  • How the Etowah Mounds were not sitting in an empty field as they appear today but were instead completely SURROUNDED by houses and a massive defensive wall and  the Temple Mound was not covered by grass but instead covered with red, yellow and white clays.

...This is truly your ULTIMATE "Time Machine" from which you can take your students on a virtual field trip they will not soon forget! (While also avoiding those high gas prices!)

You can instantly show them that Georgia was once home to some of the most amazing civilizations in North America.

"Nothing important ever happened in Blakely, Georgia!"

Those are the words I heard come from the mouth of a teenage girl on my first trip to the Kolomoki Mounds site. She wanted to know why I was photographing "that big pile of dirt." When I tried to explain to her how the site looked 1500 years ago and how it was the most important population center north of Mexico during that time period, she was in disbelief. And that's when she made the comment. She had grown up in Blakely and had no idea of its great history. I could tell she was starting to take some pride in her little town as she began to realize HOW IMPORTANT it once had been. THAT is the goal of this video! Not only to educate but also to instill a sense of pride in our history and to help students not only in Georgia but throughout the Southeast and around America realize that yes, even little, rural towns like Blakely, Georgia have a great history that's worth learning about and preserving.

With Lost Worlds: Georgia DVD You Control Which Parts You Show and When

With many educational DVDs you are forced to either watch the entire video or use the clunky fast-forward feature of your DVD player to get to the section you wish to view because many do not take advantage of the Chapter Markers feature of DVD's.

Not with Lost Worlds: Georgia (Expanded Edition)v2.0 DVD.

I have designed it in chapters with one chapter per archaeological site. Thus if you don't want to show the entire 42 minute video and only want to show the Kolomoki Mounds chapter, you may do so. It is a complete video unto itself.

Yet each chapter flows fluidly into the next thus you get the best of both worlds.

If you watch the entire video from beginning to end you will get the entire story of Georgia's prehistoric civilizations from the Archaic Period through the Mississippian Period. But if you choose to break it up by archaeological site, I make it easy for you to do so and you still get a complete story for each individual site. (Even the 30 minute BONUS VIDEO is divided into 10 separate chapters to be viewed individually or all at once!)

Also included in Version 2.0 of the Expanded Edition is an all new shorter, 24 minute version of the main Lost Worlds: Georgia documentary! And it also includes its own chapter index. I understand that sometimes you would like to leave more time for discussion after viewing a video, so I give YOU THE CONTROL to decide how to best use your class time.

Research studies have shown that most people learn best from hearing and seeing rather than reading. Thus my DVD gives  you the ability to make a lasting impact on your students.
